Moblin Packages

I ordered a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (model 1011) over thanksgiving and have been playing with it for a couple weeks now. So far I’ve been experimenting with the official release of Moblin 2.1. To get things working properly (mostly hardware issues at this point), I’ve had to build a few packages. In particular packages for the touchpad and wireless network card.

Moblin Packages

Only the *.i586.rpm files are needed unless you want to debug the packages or recompile the packages yourself. To install the packages simply type:

sudo rpm -Uvh *.i586.rpm

For those who are curious, the wireless drive is built as-is from the source package found here. The touchpad driver is a rebuild of the xorg-x11-drv-synaptics package from Moblin with the jumpy cursor and area constraint patches used in the Ubuntu package. Currently the touchpad fixes must be enabled manually after boot, until I find a good way to enable them automatically (since hal doesn’t do the right thing).

synclient AreaBottomEdge=4100
synclient JumpyCursorThreshold=90

The simplest way I’ve found to make the touchpad changes automatic is to create an XDG autostart file and companion script. First you need to create the folder ~/.config/autostart. Next copy any one of the files from /etc/xdg/autostart into this new folder and modify this new *.desktop file to launch a script containing the synclient lines.
